My plush turtle has been a my most popular free pattern so I’ve decided to share my plush tortoise pattern. These are just as quick and easy as the turtle, if you try it don’t forget to share your tortoise with me through my socials!
You will need:
- James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky in 3 colours (I used green, brown and beige)
- 4.5mm hook
- stuffing
- scissors
- plastic eyes
- sewing needle
Abbreviations:
- ch – Chain
- sc – Single Crochet
- FLO – Front Loops Only
- BLO- Back Loops Only
- dc – Double Crochet

Front Legs (Make 2)
Round 1: ‘6sc into a MR’ or if you don’t like MR ‘ch.2 and 6sc in first ch.’ (6)
Round 2: ‘inc in each st’ x6 (12)
Round 3: BLO sc in each st. (12)
Round 4-6: sc in each st. (12)
Stuff the leg lightly. Finish off and leave tail to sew legs to body.

Back Legs (Make 2):
Round 1: ‘6sc into a MR’ or if you don’t like MR ‘ch.2 and 6sc in first ch.’ (6)
Round 2: ‘inc in each st’ x6 (12)
Round 3: BLO sc in each st. (12)
Round 4-5: sc in each st. (12)
Stuff both legs lightly and leave a tail for sewing.

Tail:
Round 1: ‘6sc into a MR’ or if you don’t like MR ‘ch.2 and 6sc in first ch.’ (6)
Round 2:‘2sc then inc’ x2 (8)
Round 3-4: sc in each st. (8)
Fold over and 4sc around the fold. Finish off and leave tail to sew legs to body.

Head:
Round 1:‘6sc into a MR’ or if you don’t like MR ‘ch.2 and 6sc in first ch.’ (6)
Round 2: ‘inc in each st’ x6 (12)
Round 3: ‘1sc then inc’ x6 (18)
Round 4: ‘2sc then inc’ x6 (24)
Round 5: ‘3sc then inc’ x6 (30)
Round 6-8: sc in each st. (30)
Round 9: ‘3sc then dec’ x6 (24)
Round 10: ‘2sc then dec’ x6 (18)
Eyes are place between rows 6 and 7, 6 st. apart.
Start Stuffing, do not stuff passed round 11.
Round 11: ‘sc then dec’ x6 (12)
Round 12: ‘sc then dec’x4 (8)
Round 13-18: sc in each st. (8)
Fold over and 6sc across the fold.

Shell:
Round 1: ‘6sc into a MR’ or if you don’t like MR ‘ch.2 and 6sc in first ch.’ (6)
Round 2: ‘inc in each st’ x6 (12)
Round 3: ‘1sc then inc’ x6 (18)
Round 4: ‘2sc then inc’ x6 (24)
Round 5: ‘3sc then inc’ x6 (30)
Round 6: ‘4sc then inc’ x6 (36)
Round 7: ‘5sc then inc’ x6 (42)
Round 8-11: sc in each st. (42)
Round 12: FLO sc in each st.
Switch to the bottom shell colour (I used beige) Stuff throughout.
Round 13: In the back loops of round 12, sc in each st. (42)
Round 14: ‘5sc then dec’ x6 (36)
Round 15: ‘4sc then dec’ x6 (30)
Round 16: ‘3sc then dec’ x6 (24)
Round 17: ‘2sc then dec’ x6 (18)
Round 18: ‘sc then dec’ x6 (12)
Round 19: ‘dec’ x6 (6)
Finish Off.

How To Assemble:
Starting from row 18 of the head, sew from row 13 of the shell and work your way up so the head it sitting upright. Sew the front legs either side of the head at the front of the bottom shell. Sew the tail between rows 12 and 13 on the opposite side of the head. Then the back legs either side of the tail. See image underneath for example. Place the two hearts on the white shell in the area of your choosing.
