I was watching the Little Mermaid the other day and questioned why I’ve never maid a mermaid before. This mermaid is actually really easy to make and doesn’t take long at all. Especially using the chenille chunky yarn. Plush mermaid kits are available here on my Etsy.

You will need:
- Plastic safety eyes
- Thread for safety eyes
- Chenille Yarn for tail
- Chenille Yarn for skin
- Chenille Yarn for Hair
- Hook
- Sewing needle
- Stuffing
Abbreviations:
- ch – Chain
- sc – Single Crochet
- FLO – Front Loops Only
- BLO- Back Loops Only
- dc – Double Crochet

Finns (Make 2)
Round 1: Ch.2 and 4 sc in 1st ch. (4)
Round 2: ‘1sc, inc’ x2 (6)
Round 3: sc in each st. (6)
Round 4: ‘1 sc, inc’ x3 (9)
Round 5: sc in each st. (9)
Round 6: ‘1 sc, dec’ x3 (6)
Round 7: ‘1 sc, dec’ x2 (4)
Finish off the first fin but not the second, you will continue to crochet by attaching them together to make the tail. Do not stuff the fins!
Tail (continuing from fins)
Round 1: 4 sc round the 2nd fin, 4sc around the first fin (8)
Round 2-3: sc in each st. (8)
Round 4: ‘3 sc, inc’ x2 (10)
Round 5: sc in each st. (10)

Stuff the head firmly. Add eyes between rows 7 and 8 leaving 7 stitches between them.

Bikini
Make 2:

Leave a tail for sewing.
Strap: ch 21 and 20 sc from 2nd ch. From the hook.
Arms
Make 2:
Round 1: ch. 2 and 6 sc in first st. (6)
Round 2-10: sc in each st. (6)
Stuff the bottom of the arms lightly, fold together and 4 sc through both sides. Leave a tail for sewing.
Hair
ound 1: ch.2 6 sc in 1st ch. (6)
Round 2: inc. x6 (12)
Round 3: ‘1 sc, inc’ x6 (18)
Round 4: ‘2 sc, inc’ x6 (24)
Round 5: ‘3 sc, inc’ x6 (30)

Buns (make 2)
Make 2

Round 2: inc. x6 (12)
Round 3: ‘1 sc, inc’ x6 (18)
Round 4-5: sc in each st. (18)
Round 6: ‘1 sc, dec’ x6 (12).
Finish off and leave a tail for sewing. Stuff lightly.
How to assemble
Stuff the tail and body softly and then sew together, make sure the fin of the tail is in line with the eyes. Sew both circles to the chest with 2 stitches between them. Sew the bikini strap around the back of the mermaids back going from one top to the other. Sew the hair onto the top of the head, 2 rows about the eyes and so it goes down the back of the head. Then sew the 2 buns on top of the main hair so they are even on each side. Sew the ears in line with the eyes just infront of the hair. Sew the bow infront of the leg bun.
